Role: Plant Tissue Culture Assistant

Description
Waimea Plant Laboratories is the newest division of the Waimea Group (Waimea Nurseries) with an aim to be the leading Tissue Culture laboratory in New Zealand. Having taken over an existing business in the Hastings region we are looking to expand our production into new markets and are therefore looking to increase our staffing numbers to meet demand.
WPL has an existing workforce of 16 staff, both full and part time who have a long-standing history with the business under its previous owner. We are looking to employ a motivated self-starter into our position of ‘Plant Tissue Culture Assistant’. This is a fixed term full time position working from 7.00 – 3.30pm Monday to Friday to support a particularly busy period in the business. This role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys solitary, fine detail work and thrives in an output focused environment.
This role focuses on the plant tissue culture propagation process which will involve assessing and dividing small plant material with a scalpel in a sterile and efficient manner. Due to the small scale of our work, the successful candidate must have good vision and be able to work in a brightly lit environment with a small subject matter. A willingness to adopt change and strive for continuous improvement will be essential as Waimea Plant Laboratories is currently in a growth and development phase with this new branch of the Waimea Group.
Applicants need to be currently residing in the Hastings region and available to come in for an interview at our Eastbourne St office if required. You must have your own reliable transport, and be able to accept permanent employment in NZ. Experience isn’t a requirement, however a keen interest in plants and a positive attitude to learning are essential.
