With November in the air, Matthew Dolan and Andrew Grant being two amazing men on the NZPPI team have committed themselves to growing a Moustache for Movember to show their support for the amazing cause that started from small humble beginnings. Get behind them and grow a moustache this Movember. The NZPPI team will also all individually be moving a selected number of kilometres either running, walking, or biking over the month. Usually, its 60km for the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour, every hour across the world.
Our fathers, partners, brothers, and friends are facing a health crisis, yet it’s rarely talked about. Men are dying too young. We can’t afford to stay silent. Movember is an initiative started by two mates (Travis Garone and Luke Slattery) they meet up for a quiet beer in Melbourne, Australia, and the idea that sparked Movember was born.
The moustache had all but disappeared from fashion trends. Could they bring it back? They found 30 guys willing to take up the challenge in 2003 and from there many countries including little Aotearoa has gotten behind them and has taken Movember by storm.
Here in Aotearoa, the statistics of our mental health and suicide is outnumbered and growing daily. Life can be difficult; it can be hard for those to get by day by day with much disfunction and feeling a lack of control. There are so many positive things we can do as a nation community, and as an industry community to get behind our people and make a small impact. We all respond differently to life’s challenges and trying to understand what someone within your workplace might need or offering support and the tool we all have communication and our voice will make all the difference.
